Transforming Product Development at Vaisala

Vaisala implemented a new, state-of-the-art product development and innovation center in Finland, integrating ideation, hardware and software design, and technical testing into a single cohesive environment. Agile Work designed a user-centered workspace concept as part of the building process. The approach included studying usage patterns, creating user profiles, conducting workshops, and interactive design sessions, engaging users from the very beginning of the project.

7,900 m² for Shaping the Future

The building offers approximately 7,900 m² of space and 37 customized laboratories designed to support experimental product development and rapid prototyping. Over 300 product development experts work in the facilities on areas such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, software, and hardware development. The laboratories are versatile and adaptable, organized to ensure a smooth process from ideation to finished product.

From Virtual Reality to Real-World Solutions

Agile Work leveraged immersive design; users tested spatial solutions in virtual reality and simulations before implementation. The new concept emphasizes multifunctionality, flexibility, and cross-team co-creation. Vaisala’s Design Director, Sauli Laitinen, highlighted that the goal was to create an environment where employees can deliver the best solutions for customers and foster innovation both internally and within the partner network.
